Randy Conger Obituary

Randy was born on July 16, 1954 in Portland, Oregon to James and Janice Conger. Randy was the first of their seven children and is survived by his sisters Angie (Moffatt) and Sandra (Wilkinson), and his brother Scott Conger. Randy spent his early years working in the family business, Conger Printing, selling The Oregonian newspaper where he was the #1 salesman for the Oregonian winning a trip to Disneyland when he was 12 years old, and of course, fishing every chance he got.

Randy attended Benson Polytechnic High School and met the love of his life, Jodene (Jody) Conger, at Columbia Park when he was 16 and she was working at the park passing out free lunches and she promptly walloped him at ping pong. To rectify himself, he asked her to play chess, then asked her where she lived. The next day he came to her house and asked her to talk, they spent hours talking and thus started a lifelong love story.

Randy and Jodene found our Lord Jesus Christ at Hope Presbyterian in Portland, Oregon where Randy became a leader in the College Age Group. Randy and Jodene were married on June 29, 1974 at Hope Presbyterian. As a married couple, they became passionate about evangelizing and opened their home for weekly prayer meetings. They had four children, Charity (Staudenraus – spouse: John; children: Isaac, Claire, and Paul), Tiffanie Joy (Oliver – spouse: Greg; child: Calista), Grace (Geddes – spouse: Harris; children: Ezra and Atlas), and Stephen Conger. For Randy, family time meant camping, fishing, and racing up (and down) the giant sand dune in Pacific City.

Randy was a principal member of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship founding the Woodburn Chapter and leading throughout Oregon and Internationally. Randy was a deacon at Foursquare Church in Woodburn, Oregon. In 1983, Randy became the assistant pastor at Vineyard Church in Salem. He went on to found and pastor his own church, Solomon’s Porch in Hubbard, before his formal retirement, from the ministry. Randy heeded the Lord’s calling and continued to serve the Lord through organizations such as FMF (Foreign Mission Foundation) bringing food, resources, and the good word to those in need in the US, Africa, India, and around the world. In 2016, Randy compiled his teachings into the book, “What is God Saying? And Other Lessons From a Spiritual Father”. Although Randy was a minister, he never wanted the four walls of a church to confine the word of the Lord. Randy truly loved bringing the word of the Lord to people in need whether they were at a potluck in a small home, on a Zoom call, or living in an orphanage in Africa.

At our family meal celebrating Randy and Jodene’s 50th wedding anniversary, Isaac asked, “Grandpa, if you could minister anywhere in the world, where would you go?” Randy responded, “I would go take the word of the Lord to the poorest village in the world.” This is the legacy that Randy leaves behind, let us all strive to help those among us who are most in need.

A service will be held at Life Church at 255 College Dr NW, Salem, OR 97304 on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 10:00 am. His family warmly invites all whose lives were touched by Pastor Randy to join us in celebrating his life and his devoted work in service to our Lord Jesus Christ.
